What Is The Theme of this poem?
The poem is by Emily inson. She did not give it the title "Death and Life." That's somebody else's add-on. The theme seems to be the lack of human emotion or sentiment in the natural world. We human beings are not indifferent to suffering and death. We have strong feelings about killing and dying. But the frost kills casually, with "accidental power," with none of the malevolent intention that a human murderer would feel. The flower takes its death in stride; it doesn't seem shocked or surprised that its time has come. The sun looks down on the scene "unmoved" by life and death.
