Can the flood that covered the entire earth during Noah's days be taken as a literal truth?

I don't know if it can be proven, but I do know that around the same time this flood happened, the greeks also claimed to have had a huge flood and that the only survivors was a woman in an ark with I believe her children. Kind of weird that two different religions from back then had an ark story, and a hell story. Greeks had hades which we stole for our faith. (Well, the firey concept)
